Description

Elevate your Southwest journey with the Private Canyons of the Ancients Tour, starting from your meeting point near Dolores. This “follow-the-leader” style tour lets you drive your own vehicle behind our guide. You’ll traverse scenic rural roads and desert passages toward ancestral lands, stopping at multiple archaeological sites under your guide’s direction.

Highlights include Lowry Pueblo, a partially excavated 11th-century village with interpretive trails across stone ruins and roomblocks. Then pass through juniper-piñon woodlands to Sand Canyon, a sprawling 13th-century settlement nestled in a quiet canyon. As you walk soft trails, your guide shares insights on Puebloan architecture, farming strategies, climate change, and native plant knowledge. Photography stops, open-air views, and interpretive pauses are built in.

This day lasts around 7.5 hours, providing a full experience without the pressure of larger group itineraries. The private format ensures flexibility—linger longer where you feel drawn, skip what feels rushed, and make it yours. Venture into deep Southwest history on this curated exploration of history, landscape, and story.
